Tree Removal
Safe, complete removal of dead, damaged, or unwanted trees — even in tight yards near homes, fences, and power lines.
Removing a tree is not something most homeowners do more than once or twice in their life, but it's one of the most common calls we get. A tree might be dead and dropping limbs, leaning further every year, splitting at the trunk after a storm, or simply growing too close to a foundation, driveway, or septic line. In each case, the goal is the same: take the tree down completely and safely, and leave the property cleaner than we found it.

Lake County's older neighborhoods have a lot of mature silver maples, cottonwoods, and box elders — species that grow fast but tend to have weaker wood than oaks. Add in spring and fall wind storms off Lake Michigan, and it's a steady stream of leaning, split, and storm-damaged trees every year — plus dead ash left over from the emerald ash borer outbreak.

Tree Removal FAQs
Most residential tree removals in the Zion and Lake County area run between $400 and $2,500, depending on the tree's height, trunk diameter, condition, and how close it is to structures, power lines, or fences. Storm-damaged or hung-up trees can cost more due to the added rigging and safety work involved. We give you an exact, upfront price after seeing the tree in person — never a vague range.
Most municipalities in Lake County don't require a permit for removing a dead, diseased, or hazardous tree on private residential property, but some villages have ordinances protecting certain heritage or parkway trees. We'll tell you upfront if your job needs a permit and can point you to the right local office — we've pulled plenty over 20 years in the area.
Most single-tree removals take a few hours to a full day, depending on size, access, and whether we're grinding the stump the same visit. Large trees near structures or power lines that require careful section-by-section rigging take longer. We'll give you a time estimate with your quote.
We chip brush and smaller branches on-site with our chipper, and can either haul away the trunk sections or leave cut, stackable rounds for firewood if you'd like to keep them. Full debris haul-away is included in most quotes — just ask if you want wood left on-site.
Not if it's done right. We use plywood or mats to protect turf under equipment, rig larger limbs down with ropes instead of dropping them, and walk the property with you before and after the job. Protecting your yard is one of the standards we built this company on.
